You don't want to ever let them stop as that is wasted time/wages. The goal is to keep your combines always moving at all times. Two combines is about all I could ever keep up with in FS11 doing it this way. And it helps if you keep a 2nd big grain truck on standby so when the first one fills up, you can bring in the 2nd and ping pong back and forth between them taking turns servicing the combines and driving the other grain truck back to unload somewhere. Also by doing it this way it's easier to keep a grain truck moving between them. Then you don't have to worry about them running into each other as they get close in the middle, they'll just finish their respective halves, moving away from each other. Then start the other 2nd combine in the same spot but on the other half. Like I said it takes a lot of micromanaging especially with the tiny 1500 grain capacity on the Fahr but I'm able to keep two combines running nonstop throughout a field. Basically rinse and repeat this, manually taking over for the combine that is turning on the outside lane. Once they're both set on the straight I jump back in the tractor and get back to emptying the combines. I manually turn and restart combine #1, this time on the opposite side of combine #2 as it was before. I leave combine #2 under the helper's control since it is on the inside it will have no trouble turning and restarting at the end of the field. Once combine #1 begins to approach the end of the field to turn around I park the tractor out of the way and take over control of combine #1. I jump into the tractor and bounce back and forth between them keeping them as empty as possible. At this point both are headed straight and slightly staggered. Once it was about one combine length into the field I would start combine #2 right to the left of it. First I'd take combine #1 and start it on the far right edge of the field. It takes quite a bit of micromanaging but can be done. ![]() What I've done with two of the Fahr harvesters and a tractor with a trailer was to run them right next to eachother. However, in FS13 the harvesters (the Fahr at least) have much lower grain capacity so this would be a lot of running around and stopped combines on a larger field. I've used multiple harvesters in past FS games by just starting them on opposite sides of the field working their way towards the center.
